Work program
/bzp/devplan/gislib/hincblck.htm describes a study I did for two Florida counties around 1995 wherein I estimated household income for every census block in the county based on census data. I have two Florida counties who want me to do it this year. I would charge a little under $10,000 to do it. It would be easy because the APL fns are already written and, I assume, the data is available in nearly the same format. The data will be available in a month or two. There is nobody else in the U.S. performing his service and our process would be applicable anywhere in the U.S. So, there might be a good market for it. However, I made some effort to find other counties in Florida in 1995 and only the two contracts resulted. The fact that the data available was several years old might have been a factor. I have not wanted to do it again because ProCash & Landev are more important. But the availability of skill with SQL would make this work a lot more attractive. The only thing spectacular about the 1995 work was the maps that were created from the data, but SQL skill could create something wonderfully interactive. MapInfo could be used as a DLL or COM object to portray the data on the screen. The same user i/o we are developing for ProCash and Landev would be used for this, and this might be the fastest way to get consulting cash since the census data is available only every 10 years and it will hit the deck in a few weeks (July).
